Gateway Arch National Park

Description

When you say "National Park," one doesn't usually think of traffic lights and tall glass buildings. And yet, Gateway Arch is nestled along the river in the center of a bustling city. The juxtaposition of engineering wonders--a glass skyscraper and an enormous metal arch--can even bring to mind ancient Rome, with its triumphal arches set in piazzas surrounded by a tightly-packed brick and stone apartment blocks. The bright sun of the mid-August day when this photo was taken made the reflection of the Arch crisper. I wonder if the people in the offices ever get tired of the astonishing view?
